The public universities of Finland do not charge tuition fees for students who come from EU/EEA countries or Switzerland. In general, there is no such minimum wage rule in Finland. The lowest salaries range in between 7 to 8 euros per hour. However, international students usually earn between 9 to 13 euros per hour depending on the sector and the number of working hours. The evening shifts and Sundays are paid better, especially in sectors such as software engineering and information technology.

Post-graduation from Finnish University, international students automatically obtain a job-seeking visa. This visa permits the students to stay and find a secured work placement in Finland for 1 year after completion of their studies. Once the students obtain a full-time job and decide to get settled in Finland, they can get a permanent residency even after working for four years in Finland.

International students who wish to study in Finland can complete their studies from a Finnish university or the university of applied sciences, they have the right to stay in Finland with a residence permit based on their studies. Post-graduation, the students get two options to stay back in Finland:

• If the student has already found a job in Finland, he or she can apply for a residence permit on a work basis. The job can be of various types apart from what they have studied.
• If the student does not have a secured job during graduation, he or she can apply for an extended permit to look for work in Finland. The said permit is granted for one year, and it applies to everyone who acquires a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finland. If the student finds employment within one year, he or she can start working at the same time and also proceed to apply for a residence permit based on the work taken up.

To acquire admission in any of the Finnish universities and to pursue to study in Finland for an English taught program, you need to demonstrate proof that you are proficient in English. You do not need to take a test like IELTS or TOEFL. Besides, the following criteria are sufficient enough to show that you have fluency in English:

• You are a native speaker of English
• Your previous academic degree was taught in English at any university in the EU/EEA, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, or the USA
• Few Finnish universities also accept degrees obtained at a Finnish university or university of applied sciences if only part of the previous academic year is taught in English

If the above criteria are not met, then you have to probably take an English test to prove your language skills. Kindly ensure to take the test before applying to any of the universities, so the results come on time.

Each university of Finland has separate criteria and a list of documents. Among the basic paperwork that needs to completed in common for all the universities are as below:

• Copies of completed or soon-to-be-completed qualifications documents
• Official translations for all documents in Finnish, Swedish, or English
• Original diplomas and original official translations
• Valid Passport
